Garden Tomb & Holy Sepulcher
About This Tour
There are two sites venerated as the place where Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected. One of them is outside the old city walls and is known as the Garden Tomb. The venerated tomb is located in a beautiful and serene garden. We will explore the site and learn about its history and talk about its authenticity. Then we will walk to the Holy Sepulcher church inside today's old city walls. This church is not easy to understand without a good explanation. Once a quarry, turned into a garden, used by the Romans as place of crucifixion but also with tombs dug into the limestone rocks. This site was covered first with a pagan Temple and then with a 4th century church built by Emperor Constantine and his mother Helena. Today's church is mainly from the Crusader period. It has different levels, many chapels and it is divided between Greek Orthodox, Catholics, Armenians, Syriacs, Coptic and on the roof also Ethiopian communities. After this visit you will understand this site, considered the naval of the world, much better! Minimum 6 participants (or minimum 300 dollar)
